Founder and leader of the Zimbabwe Excellence Awards Julius Shamu with Whisper Ganya
Nominations for the Zimbabwe Excellence Awards 2017 are open. Founder and leader of the awards Julius Shamu told skynewszimbabwe.com that the awards had grown in leaps and bounds over the past two years, and Zimbabwean communities were in for a treat come April next year.
“Many of our stories as Zimbabweans are untold, many will remain untold in the diaspora, a few get told or are documented in different platforms, but it takes something of an extraordinary achievement and for one to be nominated, and to be a finalist in the Zimbabwe Excellence Awards.
“We seek to honour those who are inspired to achieve success, and those who inspire others to achieve the same, or better, to do good in their communities, in South Africa, and in Zimbabwe, among fellow Africans and nationalities and those who demonstrate innovation and resilience in their way of life and thinking, profession, business, academic, professional and social life,” Shamu said.
He added that the Zimbabwe Excellence Awards had had tremendous success since their inception two years ago, the most notable being the acknowledgement and celebration by former President Thabo Mbeki of one of the winners from 2016 – Albert Zinhanga and his colleagues – in front of thousands of people when he delivered a speech on farming.
“Truly the efforts of every one of us would not have gone unnoticed. It is because of everyone who has supported the project since day one, the people who have participated by nominating, by voting and coming to witness and celebrate the achievements of others. These awards have created a lasting legacy,” he said.
The third edition of the event will feature a complete change and overhaul from the two previous editions as the focus was now on awarding and rewarding the most resolute entrepreneurs, the most outstanding businesses, and the upcoming entrepreneurs’ who withstood the test of the time in 2016.
“We are also expecting a few VIPs who have conformed that they are coming. We cannot release the full line-up now, but I can assure you that we shall reveal some interesting names, others are coming from Zimbabwe and the interest for 2017 is quite phenomenal. Watch this space,” Shamu said.
The event will be held on the 15th of April 2017 at Marimba Restaurant in Cape Town.
Individuals and communities are requested to click on the link to nominate outstanding individuals and organisations. Nomination process will close on the 15th of December 2016.
